Rachel Swanick’s 2026 Attachment Symposium

The Attachment Symposium hosted by the University of Derby in the UK will be for in-person and online attendance on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. UK time.

The symposium organizer is Dr. Rachel Swanick, a DMM-informed psychologist. Dr. Swanick is music therapist and attachment specialist, and programme lead for the masters in Music Therapy at the University of Derby. She developed the Interpersonal Constructs and Attachment Theory (ICAT) framework to support relational practice across therapy, education, and social care. She authored the book A Clinical Guide to ICAT, available at https://www.kobo.com/.

Keynote speakers

Dr Patricia Crittenden, is the closing key note speaker. She developed the Dynamic Maturational Model of Attachment and Adaptation, and has published numerous books and papers on the DMM over the last 45+ years.

Dr. Benedict Grey is the early afternoon key note speaker. He created the DMM-informed Meaning of the Child Interview, published a comprehensive book on using the MotC, has published numerous papers, and was the programme lead for the DMM-based Masters of Science attachment program at Roehampton University. He is now the Principal Lecturer for Research on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, and the co-director of the Cambridge Centre for Attachment.

Workshops

The Attachment Symposium will offer more than twelve workshops across 4 sessions in between the keynote speakers.
