A and C patterns in attachment theory and science, and sub-strategies, whether from the DMM or ABC+D model, can appear differently in different contexts. In a recent DMM Coffee House session, one practitioner mentioned that in domestic violence cases, intensely coercive high C strategies seemed to be the primary strategies used by perpetrators, while another practitioner commented that she also sees a specific set of A strategies used by perpetrators. The two practitioner’s came from different disciplines and had different roles in DV cases. Is it the case that different professions are exposed to more of a certain set of patterns of self-protective sub-strategy? Is it the case that within a specific sub-strategy, specific attachment behaviors are more prevalent or easier to notice in certain circumstances? What might be the common A and C strategies seen in most situations? Join us to share your experiences and hear from others in the fourth DMM Coffee House session.
Upcoming DMM Coffee House sessions include two more from Ben Grey on attachment and the courts, and autism in children and the family system. We will experiment with video taping his topic introduction in session A, then using the video to start session B. Linda Hayes-Cooper will facilitate a discussion about educating parents how to parent in the context of the parent’s primary attachment pattern and the attachment patterns of their child and spouse (or ex-spouse). Louise Atkin will talk about working with teenagers. Charley Shults will share some of his DMM-informed therapy techniques.
